Herkunftsland: Somalia.
Here in Klagenfurt I go to school and I help other people near to me, for example Somali people. There are a lot of people from Somalia in here. Sometimes they need translator and I’ll help them. I go with them when they need social assistance, when they need to rent an apartment… I go with them wherever they want. Sometimes I went to hospital for example. At the moment many of them get positive residence permits so they will stay here and since they cannot speak English or German they need someone to help them.
I miss a lot of things from Somalia. I miss my family. I’m already married and I have three children – two sons and one daughter. And I miss the climate there. The climate here is very cold and in Somalia it’s warm, always. Then I also miss some friends. Now I’m here but I have adapted well here in Klagenfurt, I’ve got friends in here also. That’s important. I have integrated very well and I do a lot of things, as I think. For example I volunteer for the Red Cross and Vobis. In here I started the school from the basics. I went first to intermediate school and then to high school. I cannot go to university because I don’t have any certificate from my country. If I had a certificate, I could go to university directly, but without it it’s not possible.
The biggest thing in my life is that I’m married and I got children. Then my mom, my sister and my brothers – I miss them really. I’m really proud that the people work with me, the people from Vobis. All the people help me, I help them and we work together. I do what Vobis needs, for example I take care of the attendance lists, collect the names of the students of Sprachcafé. And then I can for example clean up or cook, I can work everywhere. If they need someone to do something, I’m always ready. I got a lot of Austrian and foreign friends from Vobis, since I’ve been here for two years. That’s an advantage for me. And in Vobis I have also improved my German.
Now unfortunately I don’t have a residence permit, but I hope to get one. I have an interview after two months, in April. I hope to get positive decision and if I get it, I would try to get my family here. My dream is to live with my family again. If I wouldn’t get my family here, we need to find out plan B. And I also hope to improve my German and English in the future.“
